Event date: 14 June 2018
British Chamber members and guests filled up the Inanda Club on Thursday evening 14 June to listen to a discussion on the England VS Springboks test series that kicked off on 9 June at Ellis Park.
The insights and stories from Matthew Pearce, Jean de Villiers and Malcolm Marx had the audience captivated! We are hugely grateful to Chamber members Jaguar Land Rover (celebrating their 70-year birthday this year) who sponsored the event and even showcased some of the latest Land Rover models.
Bollore Logistics featured as our Members story – read all about Bollore and what Carol Graham had to say here.
Some snippets from our rugby discussion:
“At this point, we need to create new memories [in rugby] and new moments to inspire. The world Cup victory of ’95 was incredibly special, but it was long ago and before the new generation’s time.”
“Siya Kolisi showed leadership attributes long before he was chosen as Captain of the Springboks. He always had encouraging words and led the Stormers well. He showed a lot of character last Saturday, coming back from being down 3-20.”
“Next Saturday we will be a special occasion. It will be Beast’s [Tendai Mtawarira) 100th cap for the Springboks and he will become the first black player to attain this feat. It’s also Siya Kolisi’s birthday and he will go onto the field in the number 6 jersey, which incidentally was also the number of former Springbok captain Francois Pienaar…. President Ramaphosa is also set to be in attendance at the game in Bloemfontein.”
