Jun-2019: Members’ Business Briefing on Leadership in a VUCA world at Absa’s Equinox Leadership Centre

Event date: 13 June 2019

For our June evening Business Briefing , we explored aspects of challenges facing companies  in a VUCA (Volatile, Uncertain, Complex and Ambiguous) world.

How do you plan for this? How do you adapt fast enough to not just keep up but get ahead of the competition? This decade has seen unprecedented progress in the development and deployment of new technologies…and the rate of change is only expected to accelerate. We’ve seen the rise of Unicorn companies; robotics, DNA sequencing and so much more within the last decade.

Hopefully this will create a brighter future for humanity. But how will it impact your business?

Colin Iles is the Global Ambassador for OpenExo, an organisation which was created by Salim Ismail, Founding Director of Singularity University, to help leaders build exponential organisations.

Colin spoke on why companies ‘must’ reinvent themselves if they want to thrive in an exponential world, and how to do it. Citing some great South African examples like Discovery and Capitec Bank, we also saw that companies with a clear purpose almost invariably see exponential growth under these circumstances.

It was great debating these challenges among members at Equinox and a huge thank you to Sterling member Absa for hosting and sponsoring the evening!
